For those of you looking forward to Part 3 of wine myths, let me assure you it is in the works and will be a future article. But because the world is focused on the Olympics in Beijing, I thought I would devote this column to my recent food and wine journey throughout China.

SAN FRANCISCO — One bar at a time, American chocolate makers are producing excellent chocolate. Here are a few notable bars from small producers using great beans. At a time when the mass market is crowded with bars labeled "single origin" (which doesn't necessarily speak to the quality of the chocolate), these are handcrafted standouts. And the latest ads for the CW series "Gossip Girl" promise hotter sex than the average TV viewer probably ever experiences.

Python, snake and snake-like prints are a hot trend for fall, and we think they're ideal in Hawai'i. Chic and versatile, with an exotic edge, they go right along with our Island aesthetic. They also pair well with wood, shell and beads for the safari and beachy looks that are so hot right now.

It's a time to meet teachers, tour classrooms and nibble on snacks. But back-to-school night shouldn't stop there.

Just when you thought all '80s fashion revivals had run their course, big hair is back.

The Honolulu Symphony will kick off single-ticket sales at 9 a.m. Monday for its Halekulani MasterWorks and select Toyota Pops concerts. MasterWorks tickets are $19 to $70, with some sections discounted from last year; Pops prices are $20 to $82.
